First, open the hood, remove the intake grille of the oven (near the windshield in the middle, long), she's on three quite fragile latches. Then freed from all the wiring and Unscrew all the screws. Screws a bit, but they are hard to see. Look carefully.
If unscrewed all, the casing is free and it can be removed simply with a little effort pulling up... Now we see the old filters, well, or the place where they should be, because they often did not. Cabin filter BMW E36 consists of two parts (as pictured above), who should stand on either side of the motor body of the stove. To get them great labour should not make. Although the place is very small and you may need one of the filters "to uncover", taking in parts.
Insert cabin filter BMW E36 in place
The crescents applied labelling of L and R, left and right but not standing up against the car and during the drive! Collect the right filter, stick it and snapped. Left cabin filter is better not to collect. As already mentioned the place is small and easier to first put all the details, and already in place to collect and lock it in place.
Now putting it all back on and enjoy clean air in your car.
However, a Spoonful of Tar Spoils a Barrel of Honey... No cabin filter is a bad sign. The previous owner of the car could take out the cabin filter due to weak engine cooler. If weakly blowing the engine cooler, the additional load in the form of filters will cause the air flow will be insufficient to sweat windshield. Cheaper and easier to remove the cabin filter than to repair the engine cooler. Do the findings themselves.
