BMW E36 318is is a sports version of the E36 model series with 4-cylinder petrol engine which became the replacement for BMW 318is E30.
BMW 318is E36 was only available in the sedan and coupe. The two-door version with internal number E36/2 debuted in 1991, the same year the car was launched into serial production.
In 1992 E36 model series has added another sports version of the e36 318i Sport, 4-door sedan with the internal designation E36/4. Sedan E36 318is specs were the same as the coupe 318is.
In the beginning of series production, BMW 318is mounted four-valve engine M42B18, and since January 1996 — M44B19. Power powertrain is identical, but the torque in M44 at 5 Nm more than in M42.
